Saturday is the Day… The Original Championship Domino Tournament!

While the people in Andalusia may have the trademark on domino tournaments, we in Carnegie have been hosting our Championship Tournament since 1944, long before they even thought about having a tournament. Sports Illustrated even printed an article in 1967 issue detailing the atmosphere and results of the tournament. This year will mark our 69th annual tournament, which brings domino players from around the local area, state and region. There is no fee to enter, and the only prizes are bragging rights the “world” over. Come join us on Saturday, February 9 at the Carnegie Town Park’s Vernon Crose Building for the right to be known as a world champion! The competition begins at 10 AM, registration opens at 8 AM. If you don’t have a playing partner, we can find one for you the day of the tournament.

Fair & Canna Festival Coming this September

The annual Carnegie Tri-County Free Fair & Canna Festival is coming up soon to the Carnegie area. This year’s event will be a great event for everyone’s family, with food, carnival rides, games, top-notch entertainment, and much more. The Canna Festival features one of the region’s best arts & crafts exhibitions, now well into its 26th year. Annual Banquet & Awards Ceremony a success

The Chamber of Commerce presented the annual Citizen of the Year award to the Carnegie Fire Department on Monday night, recognizing their service to the community during the last year. The B.W. Jolly Citizenship Award was presented to two individuals, P.K. Hurt and Kelly Williams, to recognize their role in the community over the course of several years. Jon Hansen, who was the assistant fire chief of Oklahoma City in 1995 when the Murrah Building was bombed, spoke to the audience in the keynote address. We would like to thank everyone who attended the event and has helped support the Chamber of Commerce over the years.

The Carnegie Fire Department will receive this year's Citizen of the Year award

their tremendous service and sacrifice throughout the past year. 2011 broke every record on the book, from record heat to record drought, and with them came a record number of wildfires. The chamber unanimously voted to present the Citizen of the Year Award to the 19 volunteer members of the Carnegie Fire Department.

Jon Hansen will speak at this year's banquet

The featured speaker at the banquet is John Hansen, who served as the assistant fire chief of Oklahoma City in 1995, when the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building was destroyed by a bomb. Few in Oklahoma can forget that fateful day when so many Oklahomans were killed. He will share his experiences in the aftermath of that day, as well as his life as a firefighter and later as fire chief of Oklahoma City.

The event will also honor this year’s winner of the B.W. Jolly Annual Citizenship Award, which recognizes those individuals in the town that have given many years of service to their community.

Chamber of Commerce meets this Monday at noon

Fair & Canna Festival a great success & lots of fun

We are glad that everyone had a great time at this year’s annual fair & festival. The fair board also would especially like to thank all of the volunteers that helped serve their community by working the game booths, running the rides, helping get the park ready, among many other things.

Quite simply, this event wouldn’t be possible without all of the people in our community that come forward, year after year, to give of their time and effort to make each fair a fun and successful event.

Looking forward, we are always looking for new ideas for next year. We will be talking throughout the community in the coming months on the direction that you, the people of our community, want this event to be headed toward.

Fair & Canna Festival starts this Thursday

The fair begins on Thursday, September 22, and continues through Saturday with the Canna Festival & Parade. We will have carnival rides, great food, a wide variety of vendors, and great entertainment each night and on Saturday.

"Overdrive" will perform on Saturday Night at the Fair

The band Overdrive will be performing on Saturday night. Overdrive is recognized state-wide for their performances at the Oklahoma Opry, the state Centennial Celebration, and much more. Their unique musical style features everything from modern country to classic standards of both soft rock and traditional country. This is their second year to perform at our fair, and they should prove to be a hit again this year.

On Thursday night, the band Quicksilver will entertain with their traditional country music. On Friday night, the Toby Wayne Band will perform.

We will also have frog & turtle races on Saturday beginning at 6 PM, along with a pet show for the kids. So bring your dog, cat, turtle, prairie dog, etc. Prizes for the kids at the pet show & frog/turtle race will be a big bag of fair tokens!
